Zaka Ashraf will remain PCB chief til the end of the World Cup

Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Management Committee, is expected to hold the position until the end of the current World Cup in 2023.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar is expected to make a decision regarding Ashraf’s future shortly after receiving the summary regarding his extension. As PCB head from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), according to sources.

It is important to remember that Ashraf took over Najam Sethi’s position as PCB supremo in July of this year. His four-month term is scheduled to end on Saturday.

The sources further stated that following the conclusion of the ongoing mega-event. The ultimate decision regarding Ashraf’s replacement or extension as PCB chief will made on November 19.

The development comes as the current PCB top head Zaka Ashraf is facing allegations of flagrant misdoings and unconstitutional decisions. From a member of his own management committee as his tenure nears an end.

Zulfiqar Malik, a member of the management committee, raised these allegations in an email addressed to Ashraf. And the management committee, ESPNcricinfo reported.

Meanwhile, former star all-rounder Shahid Afridi is likely to get a “key role” in the PCB following his meeting with the prime minister. 

The board and Ashraf have engulfed in controversies following the resignation of now-former chief selector Inzamam ul Haq. And Green Shirts’ skipper Babar Azam’s private chat with a senior PCB official is being leaked.
