PTI Leadership Divided Over Suspending MNA Sher Afzal Marwat’s Membership
A controversy has erupted within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership over suspending the fundamental party membership of MNA Sher Afzal Marwat.
Notification and Denial
A notification, endorsed by PTI Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi, announced the suspension of Marwat’s membership. However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan denied the notification, terming it “fake”.
Committee’s Findings
The notification claimed that a committee found Marwat disregarded party rules and discipline, harming the party’s image. It recommended terminating his membership, allegedly approved by founding chairman Imran Khan.
Show-Cause Notice
Marwat received a show-cause notice on May 11 for violating the party’s code of conduct. He was asked to explain his statements, deemed damaging to the party’s reputation.
Ignoring Party Instructions
The notice alleged that Marwat ignored party instructions, violated discipline, and made baseless allegations against PTI leadership.
Division Within PTI
The conflicting statements from PTI leaders highlight a division within the party. The suspension of Marwat’s membership has sparked a debate, with some supporting the decision and others denying its validity.
