PM Shehbaz Sharif Directs FBR to Broaden Tax Net, Boost Revenue

In a bid to strengthen Pakistan’s economy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) to expand the tax net and increase revenue without burdening honest taxpayers. During his visit to FBR Headquarters, the PM emphasized the need for collective efforts to put Pakistan on the path to progress.

Terming the staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) a positive development, PM Shehbaz expressed hope for a favorable response from the IMF board. He stressed that Pakistan can become a prosperous nation through collective efforts and sacrifices.

The PM directed FBR authorities to utilize latest technology, including artificial intelligence, to levy taxes on those who have not been paying their fair share. He also ordered the digitization of FBR to be fully utilized and hidden issues to be brought to the table without delay.

PM Shehbaz made it clear that he will not tolerate any lapses and is willing to quit rather than succumb to pressure. He emphasized that determination and sincerity are key to carving out a brighter future.

“I will quit if I need to, but I will not come under any pressure, I want that to be loud and clear.”

Earlier, the PM was welcomed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik, and FBR Chairman Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana. He laid a floral wreath on the memorial of shuhada and offered Fateha.

This development marks a significant step towards improving Pakistan’s economic indicators and increasing revenue generation. With the PM’s directives, FBR is poised to play a crucial role in broadening the tax net and contributing to the nation’s progress.
