PM Shehbaz Directs 50% of Public Sector Cargo to be Transported via Gwadar Port

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to transport 50% of public sector cargo via Gwadar port, aiming to boost trade cooperation with China. This directive was issued during a review meeting on Chinese investment in Islamabad, where the PM was briefed on the recent visit of a Chinese experts’ delegation to Pakistan.

The meeting highlighted significant progress in cooperation and investment across various sectors, including trade, energy, agriculture, IT, communication, and infrastructure. Chinese experts will be enlisted for technology transfer, removing non-trade barriers, and boosting Pakistan’s exports. Sectoral roadshows will be organized in Chinese cities to promote Pakistani products.

Chinese experts will also be engaged for technology transfer in sectors like electric vehicles and electro-medical devices. A Chinese auto spare parts company is establishing a plant in Pakistan, and the PM instructed equal opportunities for students from all provinces to participate in training.

A committee, chaired by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, will oversee the transparent selection of Pakistani students and researchers for agricultural training in China. The PM’s directives aim to enhance Pakistan’s trade and economic cooperation with China, leveraging Gwadar port strategic location.
