Pakistan wants trade, not aid; says FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

TOKYO: Minister for Foreign Affairs (FM) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held meetings with Pakistani diaspora and executives from notable Japanese companies and discussed prospects for investment and trade with Pakistan.

The foreign minister is in Japan on a four-day official visit to revive leadership-level talks. His sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari is also accompanying him.

The foreign minister stated that Pakistan and Japan have the potential to increase bilateral trade in a variety of industries for mutual benefit while speaking at a gathering hosted by the Pakistani diaspora.

He claimed that investments in cattle and agriculture may be profitable for both nations. He claimed that the current administration is using economic diplomacy to increase national wealth.

According to Bilawal, Pakistan’s foreign policy’s major goal is to promote trade rather than humanitarian relief. He continued, “This is my first trip to Japan, and the goal of my trip is to develop trade between the two nations.

He ap­preciated Japanese contributions to technology. Also he said Pakistan can learn from Japan’s advancement in Information Technology and other fields.

The foreign minister said during his meeting with Japanese leadership and entrepreneurs, he will urge them to enhance trade and investment in Pakistan.

He underscored the importance of Pakistanis living abroad, saying, “The overseas Pakistanis are our assets, who are playing a vital role to promote bilateral ties between Pakistan and Japan.”

He said Pakistan has over sixty five percent populations of youth and the government can exploit the human resource through skills based education and training.

The foreign minister urged Pakistani overseas particularly businessmen to play their role for increase in trade between two countries and also strengthening of bilateral relations.

He emphasized his commitment for boost­ing agricultural exports between Pakistan and Japan. He said Pakistani Mangoes are eaten by people all over the world.

Bilawal interacted with a number of Japanese business executives and representatives of Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan External Trade Organization in Tokyo. During the meetings, the matters related to bilateral cooperation in trade and investment came under discussion.
