 Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan Strengthen Trilateral Ties

In a significant move, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed establishing tripartite institutional mechanisms to boost economic and investment cooperation among Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. This suggestion was made during the inaugural session of the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Astana.

Trilateral Cooperation

The summit was attended by PM Shehbaz, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Heydar Aliyev. The leaders acknowledged the strong cultural, historical, and religious bonds between their nations and expressed a commitment to enhancing cooperation across various areas, including economy, energy, tourism, culture, education, technology, healthcare, and environment.

Building on Existing Ties

Since 2017, the three countries have engaged in trilateral consultations at the foreign ministers’, speakers of parliaments’, and defence personnel levels. PM Shehbaz emphasized the need to elevate this cooperation into a robust multifaceted partnership, leveraging their shared outlook and mutual interests.

Harnessing Potential

The prime minister highlighted the significant potential for collaboration in culture, tourism, academia, science, and technology, emphasizing the strong bonds of friendship and people-to-people contacts among the three nations. This trilateral cooperation aims to foster economic growth, development, and prosperity in the region.
