 Nationwide Strike Announced Against Inflation and Electricity Tariff

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has called for a nationwide strike on August 28 to protest against rising inflation and soaring electricity tariffs.

Condemning Government Inaction

Addressing a rally in Multan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the government for imposing unbearable inflation and unemployment on the public. He likened electricity bills to “bombs” dropped on people every month.

Demand for Equal Relief

Hafiz Naeem expressed concern over the government’s initiative to provide relief on electricity tariffs only for consumers in Punjab. He emphasized that relief should be provided equally across the country.

Support for Traders

JI Pakistan’s Chief announced support for the traders’ community and joined their nationwide strike on August 28.

Contrasting Relief Packages

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a relief package for electricity consumers in Punjab, focusing on low-income households. In contrast, Hafiz Naeem demanded a nationwide relief package.

Relief Package Details

The Punjab government’s relief package includes a Rs 14 per unit reduction for consumers using up to 500 units, costing Rs 45 billion. A solar panel scheme will also be launched to provide further relief.

Jamat – e – Islami

JI is a prominent Islamic political party in Pakistan, founded in 1941 by Syed Abul Ala Maududi. The party aims to establish an Islamic state based on the principles of Quran and Sunnah.
