Lasbela: Gas cylinder explosion claims 12 lives

LASBELA: The death toll as a result of a gas cylinder explosion has climbed to 12, with several injured reported to be in critical condition.

Private news channel has learnt that the cylinder exploded while being refilled at a filling shop in the main Bela bazaar of Lasbela.

Eye witnesses said the flames engulfed other gas cylinders du­­m­ped in the shop and spread to other shops, destroying at least seven of them and over two do­­zen motorbikes parked in the vicinity.

Local officials told media that more than two dozen people sustained serious burn injuries who immediately shifted to hospital. Where eight of them succumbed to their wounds. The deceased identified as Haji Omer, Barkat Ronjah, Muhammad Hayat, Muhammad Iqbal, Zahoor Ronjah, Hidayt­ul­lah, Muhammad Yaqoob and Muhammad Yousaf.

Some 25 of those injured in the cylinder explosion shifted to Karachi late last evening. Out of which four of them died this morning and 13 reported to be in critical condition.

Local police told media that an inquiry had initiated to fix responsibility for the incident.
