Constitutional Amendments Shrouded in Secrecy: Akhtar Mengal Raises Concerns
Karachi Traders Observe Shutter Down Strike Against Taxes and Utility Bills
Karachi traders observed a shutter down strike today against the imposition of taxes and hefty power and gas bills. The strike was called by traders’ bodies, including Anjuman-e-Tajiran Sindh and All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran Sindh.
Traders’ Demands
Traders are demanding a reduction in taxes and utility bills, which they say are unsustainable. They also want the government to consult them on the ‘Tajir Dost Scheme‘, a initiative aimed at supporting traders.
Peaceful Strike
Javed Shams, secretary of All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran Sindh, ensured that the strike would be peaceful. He condemned miscreants who set fires and disrupted traffic, saying they were not part of the traders’ movement.
Miscreants Disrupt Peace
Despite the peaceful intentions of the traders, miscreants disrupted the strike by setting fires and blocking roads. Traders’ leaders asked law enforcement agencies to act against these miscreants.
Nationwide Strike
The shutter down strike was not limited to Karachi, as markets closed across the country in support of traders’ demands. Traders’ bodies are united in their demands and are willing to negotiate with the government.
Government Response
The government has yet to respond to the traders’ demands. However, traders are hopeful that their peaceful strike will bring attention to their plight.
