JUI-F Demands Two Senate Seats from PTI in Exchange for Support

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has demanded two Senate seats from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in exchange for his party’s full support in parliament.

JUI-F’s Limited Votes

The JUI-F lacks sufficient votes to elect senators on its own, making PTI’s support crucial. However, the PTI committee is only willing to support one JUI-F senator, not two.

Ghulam Ali’s Candidature

The JUI-F wants to elect Ghulam Ali, the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, as a senator. However, the PTI committee prefers another candidate.

Consultation with Imran Khan

The PTI committee has sought time to consult with Imran Khan on JUI-F’s demands. The JUI-F has also demanded full support in parliament for its senate seats candidates.

PPP’s Opposition

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) wants to elect Talha Mahmood as a senator, which the JUI-F is likely to oppose. Mahmood had recently parted ways with JUI-F and joined the PPP.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Statement

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that it would be “fortunate” if his party and the PTI develop a consensus. However, he also acknowledged that there are “mountain-sized” differences between the two parties.
