 Islamabad to introduce new ID cards

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared on Friday the forthcoming availability of identity card issuance and renewal services at the Union Council (UC) level nationwide. The announcement followed his visit to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters, where he chaired a pivotal meeting focusing on enhancing NADRA’s user-friendliness.

During the meeting, various proposals were deliberated upon, including the installation of biometric machines at Union Council levels across the country. Minister Naqvi directed the swift formulation of a plan to finalize identity card issuance and renewal procedures at the UC level, stressing the necessity for a foolproof, efficient, and visitor-friendly system.

Recognizing the challenges faced by citizens, Minister Naqvi instructed the expedited expansion of NADRA centers in six major cities within seven days, comprising Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. Additionally, he underscored the imperative of taking decisive action against the counterfeit identity card network.

Subsequently, Minister Naqvi visited the NADRA operational room, where he received a briefing on the digital monitoring system overseeing NADRA centers nationwide. He commended the efforts of Chairman NADRA, Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar, and his team for their dedication.

Secretary Interior Khurum Ali Agha and senior NADRA officials were also present during the visit, indicating a collaborative effort to revamp identity card services for the benefit of Pakistani citizens.
