IHC Summons IG Police Over Missing PTI Lawyer

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the Capital Police Inspector General (IG) to appear in person tomorrow regarding the recovery case of Intizar Hussain Panjotha, a missing lawyer affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Case Progress

Chief Justice IHC Justice Aamer Farooq inquired about the progress in the case, to which lawyer Faisal Chaudhry replied that they had received footage and photographs but made no further progress. The court had previously summoned the Intelligence Bureau’s report.

Investigation Update

The concerned SHO reported that they had contacted the court and found two front pictures, which were handed over. However, Justice Farooq emphasized that the police must investigate the matter themselves.

Challenges and Delays

The police officer mentioned a car seen in footage at 5:02 hours, but the cameras ahead were defective, and nothing was found at the airport. An IB officer stated that they were still looking into the matter.

Court’s Frustration

Justice Farooq expressed frustration, stating, “Do something yourself, it is none of the court’s business.” The Deputy Attorney General clarified that the IB was not a party, but the bench retorted, “We had directed the IB, don’t misstate before the court.”

Urgent Action Required

Justice Farooq demanded the IG’s presence in court tomorrow and ordered the submission of the report by the end of the day. He emphasized that the kidnapped person must be recovered and presented in court within 10 days.

Advocate’s Plea

Riasat Ali Azad advocate highlighted the gravity of the situation, saying, “It is the issue of a lawyer, we are in a state of torment.” The chief justice reiterated the need for the IG’s presence in court tomorrow.
