Islamabad High Court Adjourns Internet Slowdown Case Until September 03

Court’s Concerns

Chief Justice Aamir Farooq expressed concern over ministers’ contradictory statements regarding the issue. The court wants to know if the issue is related to security or national interest. The Chief Justice remarked that the case has been pending in Lahore High Court, but no one is taking responsibility.

PTA’s Clarification

PTA’s lawyer stated that the internet is running, but WhatsApp is affected, and audios and videos are not sending properly. The Chairman PTA attributed the issue to a web operating system upgrade. However, the court questioned whether PTA or another entity is responsible for the severed cables.

Business Community’s Plight

The business community has been complaining about the issue for over 10 days, with the problem persisting for 12-14 days. The court observed that the issue is not only affecting the business community but also the general public.

Government’s Response

The government failed to provide a satisfactory reply, prompting the court to adjourn the case. The court has summoned the Member Technical in person and directed the government to submit a detailed report by the next hearing.
