EU Provides €700,000 in Humanitarian Aid to Flood-Hit Pakistan
The European Union (EU) has stepped in to provide crucial support to Pakistan, allocating €700,000 in humanitarian aid to address the urgent needs of vulnerable communities affected by widespread flooding and landslides. This funding comes in addition to the €11 million already allocated by the EU for humanitarian support and disaster preparedness in Pakistan this year.
Areas of Focus
The aid will prioritize the hardest-hit areas, including:
- Balochistan
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Punjab
- Sindh
These regions have suffered significant damage to infrastructure and livelihoods, resulting in loss of lives and displacement of people.
Emergency Response
The EU’s emergency response will focus on delivering essential services, including:
- Water and sanitation
- Temporary shelter
- Essential relief items
This assistance will be channeled through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
EU’s Commitment
Taheeni Thammannagoda, overseeing EU’s humanitarian programs in Pakistan, expressed heartfelt condolences to Pakistan, stating, “The EU has made available funding to help our humanitarian partners respond and deliver lifesaving aid to affected families.”
The EU has been providing humanitarian aid to Pakistan since the 1990s, with a total funding of over €150 million since 2016. This latest allocation demonstrates the EU’s ongoing commitment to supporting Pakistan in times of crisis.
