Enhanced Security Measures for Red Zone Ahead of SCO Summit
To ensure the safety and security of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, the federal government is considering deploying paramilitary Rangers in Islamabad’s Red Zone. The deployment will remain in place until the conclusion of the summit, scheduled for October 15-16.
Security Plan Approved
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a meeting on Wednesday, where a comprehensive security plan was approved. The minister emphasized that several heads of states and governments will attend the summit, necessitating heightened security measures.
Key Deployment Areas
Rangers personnel will be stationed outside key government buildings, including:
- Executive, Judicial, and Legislative Authority Buildings
- Foreign Embassies and Missions
Additionally, they will be deployed at all internal roads within the Red Zone to maintain surveillance and control.
SCO Summit Significance
The two-day summit will bring together leaders from member states, making it a high-profile event requiring robust security. The government’s proactive measures aim to prevent any potential threats and ensure a smooth conduct of the summit.
Previous Security Enhancements
Islamabad police had earlier enhanced security in the Red Zone, deploying extra personnel to maintain law and order. The current deployment of Rangers will further bolster security efforts.
