China Endorses UN Ceasefire Call for Gaza Conflict Resolution

China expressed its approval of the UN Security Council’s recent call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, which comes after more than five months of ongoing conflict. The country urged for swift implementation of the resolution’s directives, particularly in light of the final weeks of Ramadan.

Following over five months of warfare, the UN Security Council made a historic decision on Monday to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This marked a significant departure from previous instances where the United States, an ally of Israel, had vetoed similar proposals but chose to abstain this time.

The resolution received overwhelming support from all 14 other Security Council members, signifying a collective desire for a truce that would pave the way for a long-term and sustainable peace. It also called for the release of hostages taken during an attack on October 7, a critical step towards resolving the conflict.

China reiterated its endorsement of the Security Council’s resolution, emphasizing the severity of the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict in Gaza. The country underscored the binding nature of UN resolutions and called on all involved parties to fulfill their obligations as outlined in the UN Charter.

Speaking at a regular briefing, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, Lin Jian, stressed the importance of influential countries actively supporting the resolution’s implementation. China expects these nations to play a constructive role in facilitating the ceasefire and addressing the root causes of the conflict.

Lin Jian reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to expedite an end to the fighting in Gaza. Additionally, China pledged to alleviate the humanitarian suffering caused by the conflict and actively promote the implementation of a two-state solution, which remains crucial for lasting peace in the region.
