Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s Bail Pleas Rejected in Toshakhana-II Case

In a significant development, a special judge central has rejected the post-arrest bail pleas of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case. The pleas were heard by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Background of the Case

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were arrested on July 13 in a fresh National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference related to Toshakhana, just hours after their acquittal in the Iddat case. The NAB team, led by Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon, made the arrest at Adiala Jail.

Previous Conviction

In February, the couple was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each after a trial court found their nikah to be fraudulent. However, the Islamabad district and sessions court accepted their appeals against the conviction.

Current Status

Imran Khan’s sentences in the two Toshakhana cases were suspended, and he was acquitted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case. This verdict removes the last legal hurdle keeping the deposed prime minister in jail.

Other Developments

Bushra Bibi also faces other cases, including 12 cases related to the May 9 violence last year. An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi rejected her bail application, ordering a thorough investigation within seven days.
