 Cyclonic Storm ‘Asna’ Moves Away from Karachi

Cyclonic Storm ‘Asna‘ has moved away from Karachi’s coastal belt and is now located 230km southwest of the city, according to Meteorologist Anjum Nazeer. The cyclone is expected to landfall on September 1st night or September 2nd at the coastal belt of Oman.

How Cyclones are Formed

Cyclones are formed over warm ocean waters in the tropics. They are created when:

  • Warm air rises, creating a low-pressure area
  • Moisture condenses, forming clouds and releasing heat
  • Winds blow towards the low-pressure area, creating a rotating system
  • The Coriolis effect causes the system to rotate, forming a cyclone

Weather Forecast for Karachi

Light to heavy rainfall is expected in Karachi until tonight, with winds blowing at 40-50 Km/hour. The city’s weather is expected to remain cloudy or partly cloudy with likely light rainfall for the next few days.

Baluchistan’s Coastal Belt Affected

The cyclone may affect Baluchistan’s coastal belt with rainfall and coastal flooding. Fishermen in Baluchistan have been advised to avoid the sea until Sunday.

Rainfall and Wind in Sindh and Balochistan

Rain-thundershowers with few heavy falls, accompanied by squally winds, are likely in Karachi and other districts of Sindh and Balochistan. Sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough with squally winds.

Incident at Karachi Port

Strong cyclonic winds at Karachi port caused several containers to topple, but no injuries or financial losses were reported. The incident did not disrupt port operations.

Precautions and Advisories

Sindh’s fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on Saturday. The concerned authorities have been advised to keep them abreast through PMD advisory.
