ECP gears up for February 8 elections

ISLAMABAD On Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wrapped up the review and hearings of objections to nomination papers. On Thursday, the ECP will present the preliminary lists of candidates.

As of Wednesday, candidates have until Friday to choose to withdraw their nomination papers, according to a spokesman for the top electoral body.

It further stated that the appeals hearing procedure against the approval or disapproval of nomination papers by the appellate tribunals presided over by high court judges completed on Wednesday.

The final list of candidates will released on Saturday. Which also happens to the day that electoral symbols are assigned.

The upcoming phase would provide more clarity regarding which of their final contenders would participate in the pivotal election contest.

Political parties prepared their post-election campaign schedules, but they have not yet released their manifestos, which should happen this coming week.

The general elections are scheduled for the following month’s eighth.
