Top court rejects suspension of RO appointment in Kohat

ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenged the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) decision to halt the appointment of a returning officer in Kohat, and the Supreme Court overturned that ruling.

The electoral body suspended its order regarding the appointment of Irfanullah as a returning officer (RO) for the provincial assembly constituency of PK-91 Kohat II, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), last week when it filed an appeal against the PHC order in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The electoral body requested permission to appeal under Article 185(3) of the Constitution against an order passed by the PHC on December 27 in petitions filed by a candidate in the constituency objecting to the appointment of the returning officer through its attorney, Afnan Karim Kundi Advocate.

ISLAMABAD: In the fake receipt case, the Session Court has opted to extend the interim bail of Bushra Bibi and former PTI chairman Imran Khan until January 16.

Judge Ahmed Arshad, standing in for Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, who is presently on leave, made this decision during a hearing on Tuesday.

The duty judge raised concerns about the prosecution’s lack of presence during the hearing by asking, “Where is the prosecution lawyer? Not only does he not appear in the courtroom.
