SC Justices Share Light-Hearted Remarks on 26th Constitutional Amendment
219 websites with offensive content have been blocked
ISLAMABAD: Based on recommendations from law enforcement and other government departments, the federal government has blocked 219 websites because of their anti-state and pornographic/blasphemous content.
According to sources, the websites were blocked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the advice of government departments and law enforcement organizations, such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, NADRA, PTML Ufone, Jazz, Fauji, Foundation, Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), CTD Punjab, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), and ISI.
PTA was advised by the FIA and central bank to block pornographic and blasphemous websites in addition to cryptocurrency platforms.
In a similar vein, SECP had also suggested banning websites that lend money.
Furthermore, ISI had advised against visiting spoofing and other harmful websites.
According to sources, the PTA blocked websites with blasphemous content at the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ suggestion.
The Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) and AWT investment company spoofing were also blocked by PTA itself. Additionally, PTA blocked websites on public applications.
